WHAT DOES THE CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT DO?

The City Council President is elected at-large (citywide) and serves a four-year term. They break tie votes of the City Council, appoint committee chairs, and step in should anything happen to the Mayor until a new Mayor is elected. There are no term limits for the Council President.

Our current City Council President, Doug Shipman, was elected in 2021. The next regular election for the City Council President is on November 4, 2025.
