Fulton county Homestead Exemption Ad Valorem Tax

“Shall the Act be approved which provides a homestead exemption from Fulton County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in the amount of $50,000.00 of the assessed value of the homestead for residents of that county who are older than 65 years of age?”

What voting “yes” or “no” means:

Voting “yes” means seniors will pay approximately $200 less per year in property taxes to Fulton County.

Voting “no” means seniors will not get an extra discount on their property taxes to offset rising home values.

Supporters say this will help relieve some of the burden of tax assessment increases.

Opponents say this will take away money from Fulton County.

This question asks voters to authorize an additional $20,000 homestead exemption applicable to the Fulton County government portion of property taxes for residents over the age of 65. The current homestead exemption is $30,000.

At the current millage rate, this would save senior homeowners about $200 annually.

How did the General Assembly (state legislature) vote on this?

Who gets to vote now?

All voters in the Fulton County will get to vote on this question. DeKalb County voters don’t get to weigh in.
