Atlanta Press Club Atlanta City Council Post 3 At-Large Debate

The Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young Debate Series will host runoff debates for Mayor of Atlanta, Atlanta City Council President, and Atlanta City Council Post 3 At-Large. The debates will take place at Georgia Public Broadcasting (260 14th Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318) on Tuesday, November 16.

The mayoral debate will be in partnership with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and will be available for viewers to watch live on GBP-TV, GPB.org, AJC.com and The Atlanta Press Club Facebook page www.fb.com/TheAtlantaPressClub.

The debates for City Council President and City Council Post 3 At-Large will stream live on The Atlanta Press Club Facebook, WABE’s Facebook page and will be available on Public Broadcasting Atlanta on Sunday, November 21. All debates will be available on demand on The Atlanta Press Club Facebook page.

Atlanta City Council District 5 candidates Liliana Bakhtiari and Mandy Mahoney are heading to runoff election that will take place on Nov. 30.

The two candidates will appear on the Decaturish Twitch Show at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 for a final debate before the Nov. 30 runoff election.

About this event

The TransFormation Alliance (TFA) and its issue champion organizations are hosting a series of live-streamed candidate forums to give Atlantans a chance to hear directly from mayoral and city council candidates about their visions for climate, equity, health, housing, jobs, and mobility.

On Tuesday, September 28 voters will hear from candidates running for Atlanta City Council President and Post 3 At-Large.

The series is sponsored by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and Georgia Advancing Communities Together in partnership with fellow TFA issue champions: ARCHI Health Collaborative, Enterprise Community Partners, GeneratorGeorgia STAND-UPPartnership for Southern Equity, and West Atlanta Watershed Alliance.

Post 3 At-Large: 1:15 PM - 2:45 PM

City Council President: 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM

To qualify for participation, candidates must have a website with a url for their campaign and must have submitted the most recent campaign filing.

Moderated by Odetta MacLeish-White

Odetta MacLeish-White is the Director of Georgia Initiatives for the Center for Community Progress (CCP). In this newly created role, she will work to bring thought partnership and strategies for vacant, abandoned, and deteriorating properties to the state. Prior to joining CCP, Odetta was the Managing Director for the TransFormation Alliance, a partnership of nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses working with residents of impacted communities in shaping better health, climate, and economic outcomes through arts & culture-based community engagement, and by improving housing, transit, and jobs access.

Prior to joining the TransFormation Alliance, Odetta was a Senior Program Director with Enterprise Community Partners in their Southeast market. She supported comprehensive community stabilization efforts around the country with a focus on equitable Transit Oriented Development initiatives and nonprofit capacity building in the state of Georgia and the Southeast. Odetta has also served as a community development specialist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and was the staff director for Florida‘s Affordable Housing Study Commission. She discovered her love for affordable housing while working for a developer in Gainesville, Florida. Odetta earned her juris doctorate and LLM in International Law from Duke University School of Law, and her bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard- Radcliffe University.

ALL are invited to join the NAACP - Atlanta Branch, Friendship Baptist Church and the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Greater Atlanta for a conversation with candidates for Atlanta City Council President and the contested At-Large Council seats.

As we look ahead to 2022 and beyond, our beloved Atlanta has some big issues on the table. Before citizens head to the polls in November 2021, we've invited all qualified candidates to join us for a conversation with the community.

At present, both in-person and virtual viewing options are available. The in-person event will follow all federal, state and/or local health and safety protocols.
